RADICAL ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF FEDERAL IRAP GRANT PROJECT

VANCOUVER, BC, - September 1998 - Radical Entertainment, one of North America 's leading developers of digital entertainment, is pleased to announce that the company has successfully completed its Industrial Research Assistance Project assignment, funded by a Federal grant valued at $350,000.

Several technological advances involving arbitrary topology on hierarchical surfaces were made during the project including the development of hierarchical splines in 3D Studio MAX and Maya. As a result of this work, Radical released Rodin, a commercial graphics software product for the content creation.

"Research for technology advances that improve the entertainment experience for game players is an integral part of our commitment to creative innovation,"" says Ian Wilkinson, President and CEO, Radical Entertainment. ""H-Spline topology, which is based on the work of Radical Entertainment 's Dave Forsey, delivers more compelling, realistic characters for gamers."

Animated characters are modeled after real-life movement using 3D computer graphics generally based on linear algebra, three-dimensional calculus and differential geometry. H-Splines are a further refinement of these computer modeling techniques that allow the creation of localized detail where and when animators need it to add depth to characters or action sequences.
